The Washington Commanders had a very weird season in 2022. They finished 8-8-1 and were pretty much up and down all season long. They need more talent on offense to be more explosive in 2023. That starts with figuring out the quarterback situation. Sam Howell seems to be the starter as of now, and Jacoby Brissett is fighting to earn his chance as well. I’m not too convinced either of them will take Washington to the next level. If their defense looks as good on the field as they do on paper, then opposing offenses may have some trouble. I see the Commanders as a defense first team this coming season, we’ll see how far that gets them. This looks to be like a bad year to be a Commanders’ fan.
Week 1 vs Arizona Cardinals: Win (1-0)
I’m giving Washington the edge in this game. I can see Arizona struggling on offense without Kyler Murray to start the season. The Commanders’ defense will be too much for Arizona to handle. This game may be close in the first half, but I expect Washington to run away with the game in the second half.
Week 2 vs Denver Broncos: Loss (1-1)
This should be a good game. Two good defenses, and both teams have struggled on offense as of late. The edge will go to Denver here, simply because they have a better head coach and a better offense.
Week 3 vs Buffalo Bills: Loss (1-2)
I don’t see this being a game Washington can win. The Bills are just an all-around better team. Even if Washington can get a few stops, the Commanders’ offense will more than likely struggle against the Bills defense. After that, the Bills offense will prevail late and come away with the win.
Week 4 vs Philadelphia Eagles: Loss (1-3)
This is a divisional game that the Commanders did win once last year, but it’s not likely that it happens again. The Eagles should dominate this game.
Week 5 vs Chicago Bears: Loss (1-4)
This will most definitely be a good game, but I see Chicago pulling this one out. Justin Fields now has a number one receiver in D.J. Moore, I think the tandem will prevail. I really do see this game going either way though, it’s a Thursday Night Game and both teams will be pumped up and ready to go.
Week 6 vs Atlanta Falcons: Loss (1-5)
The new and improved Falcons’ offense will be too much for Washington to handle. I see Bijan Robinson having a day, which will open up the pass game as well. This should be a close game when it’s all said and done, though.
Week 7 vs New York Giants: Loss (1-6)
The Giants have a sneaky good team again in 2023, and that’s why they’ll win this game. It’ll be a good game, but the Giants should come out on top.
Week 8 vs Philadelphia Eagles: Loss (1-7)
Like I said before, the Eagles will be too much to handle in the game and soar to victory once again. I don’t think it will be close to this.
Week 9 vs New England Patriots: Loss (1-8)
There is potential for this to be a good game, but the Commanders’ season will probably be too far gone at this point. If the Patriots are decent this year, then they shouldn’t have a problem against Washington here.
Week 10 vs Seattle Seahawks: Loss (1-9)
Seattle only got better this offseason. That’s why they’ll win this game. I don’t see it being too close of a game either. The Seahawks’ young corners will be too much for whoever is at quarterback for the Commanders.
Week 11 vs New York Giants: Win (2-9)
I’ll give an upset to Washington here. Maybe the Giants get too comfortable late, and they’ll leave a window for the Commanders to squeak by with a division win. I can see a game winning field goal late.
Week 12 vs Dallas Cowboys: Loss (2-10)
The Cowboys are just simply the better team here. I can’t see a way Washington wins this game. This game has blowout written all over it.
Week 13 vs Miami Dolphins: Loss (2-11)
This game might be close for the first half, after that, I can see the Dolphins figuring it all out and running away with the game late. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will be too much to handle.
Week 15 vs Los Angeles Rams: Loss (2-12)
This is another game that had the potential to be a good game early in the season. At this point, though, the season won’t matter as much and Washington will end up on the losing end.
Week 16 vs New York Jets: Loss (2-13)
Aaron Rodgers and the new and improved Jets offense will be too much for the Washington defense. And that’s not mentioning how good the Jets defense is. This game shouldn’t even be close.
Week 17 vs San Francisco 49ers: Loss (2-14)
The 49ers are one of the best teams in the league, Washington won’t be able to compete. This game should be over when the whistle blows for kickoff.
Week 18 vs Dallas Cowboys: Win (3-14)
As I said before, this is a game the Cowboys should win any day of the week. At this point in the season though, I think the Cowboys will sit their starters and it will allow the Commanders to get a season finale victory.
Overall: 3-14
I hate to be this negative about a team. I don’t see Washington being a team to watch this season. However, I do see them being in the sweepstakes for the number one pick. That means they’ll have a shot at USC Quarterback Caleb Williams.
