One of the most exciting times of the NFL offseason is when the win totals come out for the next year. Every fan base is expecting big things from their team in the new season but when the win totals come out it can give some clarity on where each team stands. It’s always a good time to look at where each team is projected to be and which numbers make the most sense. With these three teams I think we should all expect low winning seasons for them with how their off seasons have gone and how their divisions stack up. All of these odds are provided by Betfred Sportsbook.
Chicago Bears Under 7.5 Wins
This seems like one of the easiest and safest under bets for the 2023 NFL season. The Chicago Bears had the worst record in the league last year with only three wins. For the over to hit they would have to win 8 games in the year which is a large five win jump from last year. Justin Fields has shown some flashy highlights but are we sure he’s a franchise quarterback in the NFL? Being in a division where the Lions and Vikings are clearly better it’s going to be hard for them to stack up wins in the division. They also play one of the best divisions in football with the AFC west where it might be hard for them to get more than 1 win out of those matchups. With an unproven head coach, shaky play at the quarterback position, and a bottom five defense from last year this should be a safe under bet for the 2023 season.
New England Patriots Under 7.5 Wins
Since Tom Brady has left the Patriots, they have produced one winning season. The Patriots being a bad team is so rare but it’s something everybody should get used to with how this team is constructed. The patriots are the worst team in their division and it’s a real possibility they may not win a single game in their divisional matchups. Being in the high powered AFC Conference, you have to be able to put some points on the board and the Patriots might have one of the worst offenses in the league for the 2023 season. Mac Jones is in the bottom tier of quarterbacks in the AFC and with one of the worst skills positions groups in the league it’s going to be hard for the patriots to get wins. Also, some of their out of division matchups are the eagles, cowboys, chargers, and chiefs which we can expect to all be losses. Don’t expect anything special from the 2023 Patriots and don’t be surprised if they have a high draft pick in the next draft.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Under 6.5 Wins
This is another bet everybody should feel safe making. The Buccaneers are going to be one of the worst teams in the NFL next season. This was a team that could only win eight games with Tom Brady last season. With key players getting old and frequently injured it’s going to be hard for the over to hit here at seven wins. Baker Mayfield proving to be a journeyman quarterback and questions about Todd Bowles capabilities as an NFL head coach there seems to be a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Buccaneers. There isn’t one dominant team in the NFC South which could help them but I still see them having a losing record in divisional play. The Buccaneers are going to go back to how they were before Tom Brady was playing for them, unwatchable and irrelevant. Expect them to be in contention for the number 1 overall pick in next year’s draft.
