In the finale of this four-game series, the New York Mets want to accomplish something they last did over a month ago. That’s winning a series! The New York Mets were heading into this matchup having lost their last five straight series which has seen their season spiral downwards. But with their recent luck in this series, winning two of three so far, can they finish off this series winning three out of four or will the Nationals add to the Mets woes?
Date: Monday, May 15, 2023
Time: 4:05 EST
Location: Nationals Park in Washington, DC
Team Records: New York Mets (20-21), Washington Nationals (17-23)
Projected Starting Pitchers:
David Peterson (1-5, 7.68 ERA) vs Patrick Corbin (1-5, 4.87 ERA)
What to Watch:
This has been a very back-and-forth series thus far with the Mets taking the first game followed by the Nats winning game two and New York following with a game three yesterday, so who will come out on top in the finale? It may not be that easy for these two teams with both of their starting pitchers in this matchup having miserable starts to their seasons. To begin with the Mets, they will have lefty David Peterson take the mound who has not found any success the Mets would have hoped. Peterson only went three ⅓ innings his last time out on May 7 against the Cincinnati Reds giving up four runs on seven hits.
He’s hoping for any kind of rhythm. For the Nationals, they will have fellow lefty Patrick Corbin take the mound for Washington who has also been struggling as of late too. Despite a solid six-inning performance against the San Francisco Giants on May 9, he still has been getting the results he hoped he would only record one win this series with an ERA approaching five. He has not faired well against the Mets in his career so this may be another rough start for him too.
Game Prediction: New York Mets 6, Washington Nationals 5
Both starting pitchers are pretty bad but the Mets offense looked like they were back to their normal ways on Sunday scoring eight runs. And going up against a pitcher like Patrick Corbin who has struggled so much, especially against the Mets, I expect that to continue. Though David Peterson also has had a bad start to his season, I think the Mets offense will do enough for them to win.
