It is an NL East clash at our Nation’s Capital as the New York Mets are set to take on the Washington Nationals. Both teams are off to rough starts to their seasons and the Mets are perhaps the biggest surprise with their struggles. They have lost their last five series which has not happened to them since September of 2012. What better way to end that streak than starting off this series with a big win.

Tylor Megill (3-2, 4.33 ERA) vs MacKenzie Gore (3-2, 3.65 ERA)
What to Watch:
The Mets have been playing terrible baseball as of late losing five series in a row with both their offense and pitching not being helping the cause. As a matter of fact, the Mets have only had two starting pitchers this season pitch seven innings or more, the lowest in the majors. Can that trend change with righty Tylor Megill taking the mound for the Mets. He will look to bounce back after only pitching 4.2 innings against the Rockies in a losing effort.
For the Nationals, they have not been playing terribly as many experts would have thought of but they’re still in the basement of the NL East. They will look to take advantage of the Mets recent woes as they will have lefty MacKenzie Gore take the mound for the Nats. Gore is coming off a strong start for Washington and has been a bright spot to this Nats pitching rotation going six strong against the Arizona Diamondbacks striking out nine batters.

This is a game and a series the Mets cannot afford to lose. If they want any hope in saving their season and making it a race in the NL East with the Atlanta Braves, it starts right here in the first game of this series.
