After five straight 10+ loss seasons for the New York Giants, they were finally able to not only make the playoffs last season but win a playoff game for the first time since their Super Bowl 46 win. Now, what can they do for an encore in Brian Daboll’s second season as the Giants head coach? After a pretty good offseason and with many experts calling the Giants draft, a success, did they do enough to dethrone the Eagles in the NFC East? Here is a breakdown and prediction of the New York Giants 2023 season.
Week 1, 9/10 vs Dallas Cowboys (SNF): Win
The Giants have only beaten the Cowboys once in their six matchups but I think this time their luck will turn around. They played competitively against the Cowboys in both games last season but the Cowboys did come out on top in both matchups, but I think the Giants can upset Dallas at home. The Giants young o-line need to do a much better job in protecting Daniel Jones and the defense needs to step up much better as well against this top Dallas offense. The Giants made enough moves I think to compete with the Cowboys and that will start here. The Giants will win 20-17.
Week 2, 9/17 at Arizona Cardinals: Win
There are still so many questions about Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s health heading into this season and if starting safety Budda Baker will be a Cardinal after requesting a trade this offseason. I see the Giants winning this one, 27-13 in the desert.
Week 3, 9/21 at San Francisco 49ers (TNF): Loss
This will be a loss for Big Blue and could be a bad one too. This Niners team is loaded with so much talent and they’re a healthy Brock Purdy quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. The Giants are not on the same level as the 49ers. They have a fast and high powered offense and an elite defense. The Giants have a young defense and an offense that pretty much only revolves around Saquon Barkley. 49ers come out on top, 34-20.
Week 4, 10/2 vs Seattle Seahawks (MNF): Loss
This game I expect this to be close but I think the Seahawks did a lot in the Draft and in free agency to win this game and go back to the playoffs. 27- 21.
Week 5, 10/8 at Miami Dolphins: Loss
This one will be a close one as well but I think the fish will come out on top. Their offense is just too fast and much more explosive than the Giants offense and they got better too by adding Jalen Ramsey. While I think the Giants will make it a close one, they’re not on the same level as the Dolphins are, 30-27.
Week 6, 10/15 at Buffalo Bills (SNF): Loss
In his first game coaching his former team, Brian Daboll may know how to contain Josh Allen, it still won’t be enough. I’m sorry Giants fans, this one will be too much for your defense to handle, Bills win big 34-10 in primetime.
Week 7, 10/22 at Washington Commanders: Win
A third straight road game for the Giants and this one, they will finally come out on top. I still have so many questions about this Commanders team with one of them being, is Sam Howell really your franchise quarterback? The Giants have had Washington’s number over the years and that trend will continue. Giants win 20, 10.
Week 8, 10/29 vs New York Jets: Loss
The Snoopy Bowl! This game will have so much anticipation with Aaron Rodgers now under center for gang green. This Jets offense will be pretty scary and their defense is not too shabby either. The Jets will win the battle of New York, 34-20.
Week 9, 11/5 at Las Vegas Raiders: Win
I don’t see the Raiders being any better with Jimmy Garoppolo now the quarterback for Las Vegas. The Giants will be in a tough one for sure I think but they will do enough to win, 30- 23.
Week 10, 11/12 at Dallas Cowboys: Loss
The Giants won’t beat Dallas twice, especially in Dallas. The Cowboys will learn from their mistakes in their week one loss to the Giants and this time come out on top. 28-21.
Week 11, 11/19 vs Washington Commanders: Win
Daniel Jones has only lost once in his career against the Commanders and for the third time in his five years being the quarterback for the Giants, will sweep the season series against Washington. They’re home and have better skill players as well. 27-14.
Week 12, 10/2 vs New England Patriots: Win
The Patriots seem like they’re kind of in a rebuild, though they don’t want to admit it. The Giants are just relieved that Tom Brady is no longer there, give me the Giants winning this matchup in a low-scoring affair 16-13.
Week 13, BYE
Week 14, 12/11 vs Green Bay Packers (MNF): Win
The Giants will get a look at Jordan Love at quarterback for the Packers for the very first time and at home in primetime, will steamroll the Packers. The Packers are just not the dominant team anymore they used to be, I expect a statement win for the Giants under the lights. 34-10.
Week 15, 12/17 at New Orleans Saints: Win
This may be a toss up type of game for the Giants and Saints. Playing in the Big Easy is never easy but the Giants will win this one I think in dramatic fashion. 27-24.
Week 16, 12/25 at Philadelphia Eagles (Christmas Day): Loss
The Giants have not beaten the Eagles in Philly in a decade. I’m sorry Giants fans, that trend will continue. The Eagles are by far the best team in the NFC East. While I think that all the moves the Giants made may have closed the gap a bit in the division race, the Eagles are just a different animal and could be playing around this time a year for the number one seed again. 35- 21.
Week 17, 12/31 vs Los Angeles Rams: Win
The Rams are a different team that beat the Giants 38-11 over two years ago. They have let go of so many key players and there are many questions about the health of Matthew Stafford. The Giants will win. 24-10.
Week 18, 1/7 vs Philadelphia Eagles: Win
This time, the Giants will get their revenge. With the possibility of playing for a playoff spot, the Giants at home will play with everything they got and win against their NFC East foes, 27- 24 and finish the season 10-7 with a wild card spot likely to land in their laps.
