We have seen all of March, April, and now eight days of May in this 2023 MLB season. The odds are that the National League’s Most Valuable Player is already making an impact. Let’s take a look at the top five players in the running while you can still get plus money value from your favorite sportsbook.

RONALD ACUNA JR – ATLANTA BRAVES +230
When Acuna Jr was named National League Player of The Month of April, nobody was surprised. Batting .338 with six home runs, 21 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases, Acuna Jr has led the Braves to the top of the NL East. At the pace he’s on, MVP will be a foregone conclusion as the Braves compete for their second World Championship in three seasons.

PETE ALONSO – NEW YORK METS +700
Alonso is known for the long ball, and he hasn’t disappointed. His 11 home runs and 29 RBIs have been the lone bright spot to an otherwise rough start to theNew York Mets season. If the Mets don’t start winning games soon, look for Alonso’s odds to continue to sweeten in favor of the bettor.
FERNANDO TATIS JR – SAN DIEGO PADRES +1200
Well that didn’t take long. Tatis Jr played his first game of the season April 20, after completing an 80 suspension, and immediately made an impact on the San Diego Padres. Batting .290 with four home runs and 10 RBIs, Tatis has taken hold of the lead off spot and been a lightning rod. The biggest surprise has been his glove in right field. This may be your last chance to get this value on Tatis Jr.

MOOKIE BETTS – LOS ANGELES DODGERS +1200
As long as Betts is playing in Los Angeles he will be a candidate for MVP. Consistent defense, one of the games best lead off hitters, and always comes up clutch. Sunday night in San Diego, the Padres were one out away from taking the series 2-1 over Los Angeles. Instead, Betts hit a game tying home run and the Dodgers would go on to win the game and the series. As long as Betts can stay on the field, he will be in contention for this award all season.
JUAN SOTO – SAN DIEGO PADRES +1500
Coming into the season, Soto was a lot of people’s favorite to win NL MVP. A slow start has given room for Acuna Jr to take that early crown, but he’s starting to heat up. Soto has recorded hits in eight of his last nine games and is currently batting .292 in the month of May.
NOTABLE WILD CARD CONTENDERS
MAX MUNCY – LOS ANGELES DODGERS +1800
Leads the National League with 12 home runs, on one of the NL’s best teams. You do the math.
BRYCE HARPER – PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES +2500
Started the season on the IL, but has returned earlier than expected. The Phillies haven’t quite found their way yet, but with Harper batting .368 in his first 22 plate appearances, help is on the way.
