The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees conclude their three game series today. Both teams have taken one game in the series thus far so this game today will be the rubber match. Prior to this series against New York, Cleveland dropped two of three to the Boston Red Sox. The Guardians are fighting for positioning within the AL Central currently so every game does count despite it still being early on in the season. As for the Yankees, they dropped three of four to the Texas Rangers in their previous series. New York does have some injuries but can’t afford to keep losing games as they play in a very competitive AL East division.

What to Watch:

Shane Bieber takes the mound today for the Guardians and he will need a very strong outing if they want to grab the win. The Yankees have a lineup, even without some of their top guys today, who can absolutely mash the ball. He is going to need to keep his pitch count down and keep control of his command against this opportunistic Yankees lineup. Bieber has the stuff to limit them but the issue is that he hasn’t been consistent to start this season.

The Yankees as mentioned are missing some key players but still have enough title to remain competitive. They are going to need others to step up in the absence of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Facing off against Bieber could be a challenge but if they remain disciplined and patient at the plate, it could pay off for them.
