Boston continues their west coast trip today as they take on the San Diego Padres in the second game of a three-game series here. Before this matchup with San Diego, the Red Sox came off a tough series with the Seattle Mariners. They have played much better baseball of late after a really slow start and now they find themselves right in the thick of things within the AL playoff race despite it still being so early on. As for the Padres, they got swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend and then played a tough series against the Kansas City Royals at home. This is a team that had title aspirations to start the year but have since fallen down a tier, at least for now. We are in for another exciting game today with both sides needing wins to gain some momentum going as the season unfolds here.

What to Watch:
Within this game for the Red Sox, their success will depend on the performance of Chris Sale. Once an ace level pitcher, Sale has fallen off over the last few seasons due to injuries and inconsistent play. He is still capable of a strong start every now and then and they are hoping that today is one of those. Boston needs Sale to really perform well today against a tough Padres lineup. They have one of the best rosters, top to bottom, in all of baseball so Sale will need to make sure he executes his pitchers well and gets to his spot.
With San Diego, they are throwing out Joe Musgrove who has had an interesting year to date. He really came on strong last year for the Padres but has been prone to getting roughed up this season. If Musgrove can limit the damage from the Boston lineup, the Padres offense should be good enough to get the win at home.
