New York Mets vs Miami Marlins Opening Series Game Preview 4/2/2023

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins continue their four game series today. Both teams have won games in this series so parity is alive and well, at least so far. The Mets came into the season with lofty expectations for a World Series this season while Miami is a playoff hopeful. The Marlins have played New York well so far in this series, showing that they could possibly be a long shot to reach the postseason if this continues. Offseason signee Justin Verlander was supposed to make his Mets debut yesterday but an injury landed him on the disabled list and his debut in New York will need to wait a little longer.

Date: Sunday, April 2nd 2023

Time: 1:40 p.m. EST

Location: loanDepot park in Miami, Florida

Team Records: New York Mets (2-1), Miami Marlins (1-2)

Projected Starting Pitchers:

Kodai Senga (0-0, 0 ERA) vs Trevor Rogers (0-0, 0 ERA)

What to watch

I’m watching the major league debut of Senga. The Japanese star signed a big deal with New York over the offseason and his debut has been much awaited. It’ll be fascinating to see how his career progresses but he has the skills to be a special talent in MLB. If he can control his pitch count and get out to a strong position early, I believe he can limit the damage against Miami.

As for Miami, they are throwing out Trevor Rogers who is looking to build on a poor 2022 season. Miami does have some intriguing players within their roster, including Jazz Chisholm Jr., who took the league by storm last season. If he can have a strong day then the Marlins may be able to grab a win here.

Game Prediction: New York Mets 5, Miami Marlins 2

I like the Mets to take this game behind a strong start from Senga in his major league debut. New York is the better team and it will show as they get another win.
