Thairo Estrada, Second Baseman, San Francisco Giants
Estrada is hitting for a .350 average so far in the young season. In 100 at-bats, he has 35 hits, seven doubles, and four home runs. He has stolen eight bases as well and has shown he can do it all this year. Estrada has a vacuum for a glove. He has a 1.000 fielding percentage at second base and that’s with 50 attempts, so it’s no fluke. The Giants have to be happy with how Estrada is playing this season. He’s just 27 years old, so he still has a bright future.
Justin Steele, Starting Pitcher, Chicago Cubs
Steele has been tremendous for the Cubs in 2023. He has a 4-0 record with a 1.19 earned run average. I’d say that’s pretty good for a guy who didn’t have very high expectations this season. He’s not a big strikeout guy, but he has nasty stuff that calls for weak contact. Steele is just 27 years old, and it looks like he has found his groove in Chicago and could become their ace in no time. Steele is a free agent after 2023, maybe he will get paid big money if he continues at this rate. Hopefully, he can keep this play up, if so, he could find himself in the Cy Young race.
Zac Gallen, Starting Pitcher, Arizona Diamondbacks
Zac Gallen has been outstanding to start 2023. He’s 4-1 with a 2.15 earned run average and has 51 strikeouts in just under 38 innings pitched. Gallen was great last year, but this year he’s doing even better, and he’s proving last year wasn’t an outlier. He’s becoming one of the league’s best arms, and he’s just 27 years of age. His best years are still to come, and the Diamondbacks need to lock him into a contract after the season is over. Gallen is due for a big pay day, and he deserves all of it.
