Why the Timberwolves Can Win:
It won’t be easy, but Kyle Anderson and Taurean Prince will need to step up big time again against this Lakers team, as they have done before. Karl Anthony-Towns and Anthony Edwards will attract most of the attention from the Los Angeles defense, which will lead to opportunities Anderson and Prince need to capitalize on. They will also need to stay out of foul trouble, as since the trade deadline, they rank 28th in opponent free-throw rate. Limiting those extra opportunities will be essential for Minnesota to keep the game close enough to pull off the win.
Why the Lakers Can Win:
For starters, this will not be the same Minnesota team that the Lakers faced during the season. Naz Reid is out with a wrist injury, Jaden McDaniels injured his hand on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, Rudy Gobert is suspended after his incident with Kyle Anderson, and Karl-Anthony Towns is currently questionable (calf). That leaves Anthony Edwards and Kyle Anderson to pick up a bulk majority of the offensive and defensive production. This Minnesota defense was already struggling as they were 18th allowing 115.8 points per game, and the Los Angeles offense should take advantage of that with their sixth ranked scoring offense with 117.2 points per game.
Prediction and Bet:
The Timberwolves are going to be extremely limited when it comes to playmakers on the court. That will end up costing them against this Lakers team that is at full health and come in with momentum, winning six of their final seven games. The Lakers will win, but the true value for this game is the under. While the Lakers will do their fair share of scoring, the Timberwolves won’t be able to match it. Plus, even when the Timberwolves were at full strength, when the two had matched up they had gone under the total in eight of the last 10 meetings.
