After three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Darius Slay is reported to be released by the team and hit the free agent market. Over 10 seasons in the NFL, Slay has had 9,083 snaps in which he accumulated 513 total tackles, 133 run stops, 26 interceptions, 84 pass breakups, and has allowed only 5,975 yards over 481 receptions while being targeted 804 times. Slay, even at 32 years old, is still playing at a high level and can add value to numerous teams. These are the three teams that should be interested in signing him.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals needed more cornerback help before, but especially now with Byron Murphy gone and signing with the Minnesota Vikings. Their defense allowed the highest completion percentage in the NFL in 2022 with 69.8% which equated to 3,915 pass yards and 29 touchdowns allowed. They need that experienced player to step in and help out in the secondary, and Slay would be ideal for that. They have the cap space still with $30,635,638 which is the fourth most according to overthecap.com. What also makes this move relevant, is the Cardinals new head coach, Jonathan Gannon. Slay just played under Gannon’s defense for two seasons and with Gannon knowing Slay already, this move would make perfect sense.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have a need at the cornerback position, and in a division with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, having a corner the caliber of Slay would be a great addition. Looking at 2022, the Raiders allowed 4,129 passing yards and 25 touchdowns over a 67.6% completion percentage. The Raiders already signed former Eagle safety Marcus Epps, pairing him back there with Slay would lead to an easy transition for both. The Raiders are also in a spot to take a cornerback in this deep draft class, if they do, Slay provides a great mentor as well for the young rookie.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have money to spend this offseason and they have made their defense a focal point so far. A.J. Terrell is a phenomenal young talent, but opposite him, they could use an upgrade after allowing a 66.3% completion percentage that went for 3,942 yards and 26 touchdowns. A cornerback duo of Terrell and Slay would automatically be one of the top potential duos entering the 2023 season. The Falcons still have the cap space as they have the second most still at $39,906,065. With the outlook of the NFC South being wide open, signing Slay would further help put the Falcons in position to win the division.
