Ezekiel Elliott is expected to be released by the Dallas Cowboys here soon after spending seven seasons with the team. Elliott isn’t the same player that he was even two seasons ago but showed that he can still be a capable runner in the game today. This past season he rushed for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 17 balls for 92 yards which was a clear down year for the running back. Elliott split time with Tony Pollard in the backfield and many people could see this move coming from a mile away. Here are four teams that would make sense for Elliott at this point in his career.
Houston Texans
The Texans ranked towards the bottom in the league in almost every rushing category last season. Bringing in Elliott could help that and would give whatever rookie quarterback a nice option to rely on as well. While he isn’t the same player as he once was, he could be solid helping carry the load in the backfield with Dameon Pierce. Elliott could get carries in Houston and would bring some veteran leadership to this team as well.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams need to upgrade and find more playmakers. They dealt with a ton of injuries last season in route to their poor season and they still want to be competitive. They have talked about moving on from Cam Akers for awhile now so bringing in Elliott makes some sense here. Having a trio of Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Elliott could be a fun watch if they can fix the offensive line. The Rams would also give Elliott a chance to possibly win as well which could be a factor in his decision.
Arizona Cardinals
Arizona needs playmakers and Elliott could still be that for them. The Cardinals have James Connor and it could be a split backfield between the two of them. That would give them a nice duo that could provide a spark to this offense that struggled at times this past season. The team knows it needs to upgrade at many positions so why not bring in a veteran running back to try and help. Connor was decent for them last season but Elliott would be an upgrade at the position for a team that could still be trying to compete.
Carolina Panthers
Elliott could be an impact player for Carolina if he joined them. They will be getting a rookie at quarterback and Elliott could help make the transition easier for them. They had D’Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard but neither of them should prevent the team from going after Elliott. He brings a blocking element to his game as well, which again could really help a young quarterback find success in the league.
