The Carolina Hurricanes head to the Big Apple for an Eastern Conference showdown with the New York Rangers tonight. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST from Madison Square Garden.
The Hurricanes come in with a record of 45-15-8 on the season and they have gone 6-4 over their last 10 games overall. They currently are holding onto the top spot in the Metropolitan Division but every point counts at this point in the season. On offense, they have averaged 3.3 goals per game and are scoring on 21.4 percent of their power play chances. It has been an efficient offensive attack for Carolina all season and has played a big reason into their on ice success. Defensively, they are allowing just 2.5 goals per game in impressive fashion. They will face a tough Rangers attack tonight so they will need to stay ready at all times.
As for New York, they come in with a record of 41-19-10 and they have gone 7-2-1 over their last 10 games overall. They also come in riding a four game winning streak and have climbed back towards the top of the Metropolitan Division. They only sit a few games behind the Hurricanes for the top spot so grabbing a win tonight could go a long way for them. On offense, they are averaging 3.2 goals per game and are allowing 2.8 goals to opponents on average per game. This is a revamped team after their successful trade deadline and a team that will likely make some noise come playoff time.
Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes 5, New York Rangers 4 (OT)
I like this game to head to overtime tonight. These are two of the better teams in the East and it seems like it could be a fun, back and forth type of game.
