Seattle begins an East Coast swing in New York against the Islanders. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:38 p.m. EST.
The Kraken carry a 29-15-5 record (63 points) and sit first in the Pacific Division. Seattle is led in scoring by Jared McCann, who has netting 23 goals thus far. Matty Beniers sits second on the team in goals with 17 while Daniel Sprong ranks third with 15 goals. Andre Burakovsky leads the Kraken in points with 39 in 48 games this season. Jordan Eberle follows close behind with 38 points, while Beniers (36), Vince Dunn (36) and McCann (35) fill out the top five. Martin Jones has been Seattle’s number one goaltending option this season with a 23-7-3 record, 2.82 goals against average and .895 save percentage.
The Islanders enter tonight with a 26-22-5 record (57 points), sitting sixth in the Metropolitan Division and one spot out of the Eastern Conference wild card. New York’s newest acquisition, Bo Horvat, did not get on the scoresheet in last night’s 2-1 win, but ranks at or near the top in most of all major offensive categories. Horvat’s 31 goals and 54 points rank first on the Isles. Brock Nelson and Anders Lee have 19 goals each and are now tied for second on the team. Nelson also ranks second in points with 47 while Mathew Barzal ranks third with 44 points. Ilya Sorokin has been fantastic for New York this season. The 27-year-old is 16-16-4 with a 2.38 GAA and a .923 SV% in 38 games.
Seattle has taken two of the first three meetings between these two franchises in its history. Tonight’s projected starting goaltenders are Jones for the Kraken and Sorokin for the Islanders.
Prediction: Seattle 3, New York 1
This is going to be another lower-scoring, tight-checking contest with the focus on capitalizing on the few opportunities the offenses get. Seattle has seemed to get every break and bounce this season, and I think that continues tonight. The Kraken squeeze by a defensively sound Islanders team, adding an empty netter late, spoiling another great performance by Ilya Sorokin.
