The Montreal Canadiens end its four-game road trip with a stop in Philadelphia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. EST.
Montreal enters tonight with a 24-29-4 record (52 points) and sit last in the Atlantic Division. The Canadiens are also second to last in the Eastern Conference and would hold the seventh-best odds to win the NHL Draft Lottery if the season ended today. Cole Caufield leads the Canadiens in scoring with 26 goals. Nick Suzuki’s 18 and Josh Anderson’s 16 round out Montreal’s top three goalscorers. Suzuki leads the team in points with 44 in 57 games. Caufield sits second on the team in points with 36 while Kirby Dach is third with 35. Jake Allen has been the goaltender of choice for the Canadiens this season. Allen is 12-18-2 with a 3.47 goals against average and an .894 save percentage in 32 games.
Philadelphia brings a 23-26-10 record (56 points) into tonight’s contest and sit seventh in the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers sit third to last in the East and would have the eighth-best odds to earn the first overall pick if the season ended today. The Flyers are led by Travis Konecny’s 27 goals. Kevin Hayes (17 goals) and Owen Tippett (16) have also been reliable on offense for Philadelphia. Konecny also leads the Flyers in points with 54 while Hayes follows closely behind with 48. Carte Hart has been good this season in net. The 24-year-old is 16-18-9 with a 2.89 GAA and a .909 SV% in 43 games.
Montreal took the first meeting between these two teams earlier this season 5-4 in a shootout. Tonight’s projected starting goaltenders are Allen for the Canadiens and Hart for the Flyers.
Prediction: Philadelphia 3, Montreal 1
The Flyers have still shown some fight, despite having to jump a ton of teams just to sniff an Eastern Conference wild card spot. However, that fight will give them the win against a team lower than them in the standings, as the Canadiens have looked fairly disinterested all season.
