The Seattle Kraken host the rival Vancouver Canucks under new head coach Rick Tocchet. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:08 p.m. EST.
Vancouver enters tonight with a 19-25-3 record (41 points) and sit sixth in the Pacific Division. The Canucks are led by Bo Horvat, who has tallied 31 goals this season. Andrei Kuzmenko (21), Elias Pettersson (19), and J.T. Miller (18) are the next three best goalscorers. Pettersson leads the team in points with 56 while Horvat is the only other skater with at least 50. Kuzmenko and Quinn Hughes have 43 points each, while Miller rounds out the top five with 42 points. Spencer Martin has been Vancouver’s number one goaltender with an 11-12-1 record, 3.86 goals against average, and .877 save percentage in 26 games.
The Kraken bring a 27-14-5 record (59 points) and sit third in the Pacific Division. Jared McCann leads Seattle in scoring in a resurgent year, as the winger has 22 goals thus far. Matty Beniers ranks second on the team in both goals (17) and points (36). Andre Burakovsky leads the Kraken in points with 38. Seattle has a total of 13 skaters with at least 20 points on the season and six skaters with at least 30 points in a balanced scoring attack. Martin Jones has been Seattle’s best option this season. The 33-year-old is 22-6-3 with a 2.84 GAA and an .894 SV% in 33 games. The Kraken will be without Jaden Schwartz (undisclosed), and Justin Schultz (undisclosed) who is now considered week-to-week. Both Yanni Gourde and Burakovsky are game-time decisions with undisclosed injuries.
The Kraken have never beat the Canucks in six tries during its short existence. A win tonight would make franchise history. The projected starting goaltenders are Martin for Vancouver and Jones for Seattle.
Prediction: Seattle 5, Vancouver 2
It’s time for Seattle to find its first win against the rival Canucks. The Kraken come in as the better team, with a more talented roster and more to play for. Seattle may have to weather an early Vancouver storm, but will bounce back and be in total control by the third period, winning the game comfortably.
