The Florida Panthers play the first of two games in two days, with a stop in New York against the Rangers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. EST.

Florida enters tonight’s game hot as winners of four of its last five, five of its last seven, and seven of its last 10 games. The surging Panthers are 23-20-5 (51 points) and sit fourth in the Atlantic Division. Florida is led by Matthew Tkachuk, who has tallied 24 goals thus far. Carter Verhaeghe follows closely behind Tkachuk with 22 goals. The first-year Panther also leads the team in scoring with 49 points. Aleksander Barkov is the only other skater with at least 40 points. Sergei Bobrovsky has handled most of the starts thus far, but Alex Lyon was the first goaltender off the ice this morning. Lyon has won both games he has appeared in this season, notching a 2.55 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. The Panthers are finally starting to get healthy as well. Sam Bennett (upper body), and Aaron Ekblad (upper body) will both play tonight.

The Rangers carry a 25-14-7 record (57 points) into tonight’s game and sit third in the Metropolitan Division. New York has a 3-2-1 record over their last six games, but have not looked the best. Mika Zibanejad (20) and Chris Kreider (19) lead the Blue Shirts in goals, with only three other skaters in double digits. Artemi Panarin holds a slim lead in points over Zibanejad and Adam Fox. Panarin has tallied 47 points, while Zibanejad has 46, and Fox has 45. Igor Shesterkin has been solid in net once again this season. The 27-year-old is 20-8-6 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 SV% in 34 games.

After taking two of three games from Florida last season, New York took the first game of this season’s series back on New Year’s Day. Tonight’s projected goaltenders are Lyon for the Panthers and Shesterkin for the Rangers.

Prediction: Florida 4, New York 2

I like the Panthers to take this one playing as the hotter team. The Florida defense will play hard knowing its third-string goaltender is in net, while the Panther offense keeps clicking as it has started to do recently. The Rangers will find itself on its heels too often tonight.
