Washington Capitals vs Edmonton Oilers Game Preview 12/5/2022

The Rundown:

The Washington Capitals are making their second-to-last stop on their current six-game road trip. Tonight they face the Edmonton Oilers, who are eager to avenge their recent loss to Washington. Two of the best in the league when Connor McDavid and Alex Ovechkin go head-to-head. Will the Capitals take another victory at the expense of Edmonton? Or will the Oilers return the favor this time around, while also adding to the woes of Washington? An exciting Monday matchup is on the way later tonight!

The Matchup

The last time these two teams faced off, the Capitals squeezed out a tight 5-4 win on home ice back on November 7th. Connor McDavid will look to extend his point streak to six games, where he had two goals and two assists in a 5-3 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. It was his fourth straight multipoint game, and the Oilers captain has five goals and seven assists in his past five. The Oilers captain has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) against Ovechkin (11 points; five goals, six assists) and the Capitals. Along with McDavid’s success, the Oilers have been playing too. Edmonton has won four of their last five outings. But despite the Oilers recent success and McDavid’s scoring output, they have not been as good against the Capitals. Washington is 6-2-2 against Edmonton (4-5-1) since McDavid has been an Oiler. This game has a lot of pressure after recent displeasure from the team’s GM. The Capitals have been extremely inconsistent this year, especially due to their large amount of injuries. But a bright spot for them is Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who has eight points (four goals, four assists) in his past six, which puts him at 793 goals, eight behind Gordie Howe (801) for second in NHL history.

Players To Watch

For the Capitals and the Oilers, the players to watch are McDavid and Ovechkin. Two players that are the best in the league and the best of their generation. Ovechkin, the greatest goal scorer of our time. McDavid, the most talented hockey player in the world. What’s more to ask for?
