Vegas Golden Knights at Pittsburgh Penguins Game Preview 12.01.2022

The Golden Knights continue its four-game road trip with a stop in Pittsburgh. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. EST.

Vegas is off to a blazing start to the season with a 17-6-1 record and sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division. The Knights have won three of its last five games and are led in scoring by Jack Eichel with 11 goals. Eichel also leads the Golden Knights in points with 26 in his first 24 games. Reilly Smith is the only other skater in double-digit goals with 10 while Alex Pietrangelo is the only other Knight with more than 20 points. Logan Thompson has emerged as Vegas’ number one goaltender as he has notched a 12-4-0 record with a 2.44 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Vegas does not expect Pietrangelo to play tonight due to personal reason and Brett Howden has placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

Pittsburgh continues a stretch of home games tonight as losers of two straight but winners of five of its last seven contests. The Penguins continue to be led by its captain Sidney Crosby. The 35-year-old leads the team in goals with 12 and points with 31 in 23 games. Crosby’s 31 points are seventh best in the NHL. Jake Guentzel and Evgeni Malkin have both tallied more than 20 points so far this season with 21 and 20 respectively. Tristan Jarry has been solid this season with an 8-3-3 record, 2.91 GAA and .914 SV%. Pittsburgh will be without star defenseman Kris Letang indefinitely as 35-year-old suffered a minor stroke earlier this week. It was Letang’s second stroke since 2014. The defenseman returned 72 after his first stroke. Thankfully, this stroke is not considered to be career-ending or life-threatening.

Vegas took both matchups from Pittsburgh last season in regulation. Tonight’s starting goaltender matchup is projected to be Thompson for Vegas and Jarry for the Penguins.
