The Houston Rockets matchup against the San Antonio Spurs in a game between the worst two teams in the Western Conference. The game is set to take place at AT&T Center at 8:30 p.m. EST.
The Rockets are coming off an overtime win against the Philadelphia 76ers by a score of 132-123 after exploding to a 15-6 run in overtime. This came after a win over the Phoenix Suns a few days prior. Their biggest struggle this season has been on the road, where they own a record of 3-12 this season compared to a just subpar home record of 4-5.
The Spurs are coming off an abysmal 133-95 loss to the Suns, adding on to their 11 game losing streak. In six of those games, the Spurs were held to under 100 points, so they will definitely look to get their scoring back against a Rocket defense who has allowed the third most points per game this season.
How Houston Can Win:
The Rockets need guys like Jalen Green to continue stepping up for them. In the wins against the Suns and 76ers, Green scored 30 and 27 points respectively. When he is hot, the rest of the team follows. Another key player in this matchup is Alperen Sengun at center. The Spurs have been struggling with Jakob Poeltl out, and opposing centers have taken advantage in the paint. Sengun will need to lead the game in rebounds and score efficiently enough to top the Spurs.
How San Antonio Can Win:
Right now, the Spurs are a team where everything would have to go right for them to get the win. They have been struggling in every statistic, including a particularly alarming one with their free throw percentage, which is second worst in the league at 72.2%. Against a bad defense, the Spurs will need to get all of their stats up to beat the Rockets.
Prediction: Houston Rockets 122, San Antonio Spurs 103
I expect this to be another beat down despite both teams having similar records. I think the Rockets have the much better team and the Spurs cannot get anything going their way.
