Early this morning, information came out saying that former Alpha Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur was hired as the new team principal for Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team. This move comes exactly two weeks after former team principal Mattia Binotto came out with a statement resigning as team principal after 28 years with Ferrari. 

There is a lot that Vasseur will bring to this Ferrari team. Hopefully they can improve from how they finished this past year. Here is a quick preview of Vasseur and what he brings to Ferrari.

At 54 years old, Vasseur has become one of the most respectable figures in the sport of Formula 1. He began his career in Formula 1 by joining the newly formed Renault Sport F1 Team in 2016 as team principal in 2016. He only lasted that one season due to his disagreements within the management of the team on how they should properly be run. 

In the middle of July in 2017, Vasseur took a job with Sauber F1 Team as CEO, managing director and team principal. He continued in this role for the next five years as the team is now known as Alpha Romeo F1 Team until he was hired as team principal for Ferrari.

The Vasseur hire is great in many ways. It’s great to bring a guy like Vasseur into this role since he was already working with a car that uses Ferrari’s engine. Already having knowledge with a car similar to Ferrari is great when it comes to being able to get the most out of the Ferrari car. Also, his relationship with Charles Leclerc is hard to ignore. 

Vasseur and Leclerc’s relationship dates back to where Vasseur gave Leclerc a seat on the Sauber team for a year. It’s hard to think that anyone else in Formula 1 would be able to bring the most out of Leclerc than Vasseur. This is an exciting hire, and everyone is eager to watch this duo back together next season.
