The Atlanta Hawks face the Brooklyn Nets in a tale between two top five teams in the Eastern Conference. The game will be at 7:30 p.m. EST at Barclays Center.
The Hawks come into this game with a 13-12 record and are coming off back-to-back losses, including a 113-89 loss to the New York Knicks. Despite their recent losses, Atlanta is a very good team. Their scoring is still in the top half of the league, despite it slowing down in their last few games. The hawks have clearly shown that they need to be more dimensional than just Trae Young and Dejounte Murray as their only options.
The Brooklyn Nets are on the come up now with five wins in their last six games, with their only loss coming against the Boston Celtics. They currently hold a 14-12 record, and it doesn’t seem like their success is stopping any time soon. Most of their success lately has come from beyond the arc, where they rank ninth in the league at 37.2%.
How Atlanta Can Win:
With Murray out as well as John Collins, it doesn’t leave many options for the Hawks. This is a game where they need to spread the ball around. With Young being practically their only dangerous weapon, they need their bench to step up. Against a climbing team like the Nets, they cannot rely on Young to save the day.
How Brooklyn Can Win:
The Nets have been taking good shot selections all season, and they need to continue that tonight against Atlanta. They rank second in the league in field goal percentage at 49.7%, and they need to keep that up against a Hawks team that doesn’t give up many second chances. The Hawks currently rank ninth in rebounds per game, so the Nets are going to need to play a slow game to limit the possessions and put the game in their favor.
Prediction: Brooklyn Nets 116, Atlanta Hawks 103
While I don’t expect the Nets to kill the Hawks, I do think the difference in this game ends up being a decent margin. The Nets are playing their best basketball all season while the Hawks are playing their worst, so I’m taking the Nets in this one.
