The Chicago Bears were widely viewed as one of the worst rosters in the NFL heading into the season. The offensive line is poor, and the weapons are few and far between. Justin Fields was set up to fail in a simple drop back pass offense. He is a freak of an athlete, and his skill set as a runner would need to be utilized if the Bears wanted to get the most out of him.
Justin Fields is on pace for 1,288 rushing yards this season…
That would break the NFL’s QB rushing record 👀 pic.twitter.com/rDNVCet2GQ

As the season has gone along, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has shifted the offense and has started to utilize Fields’ running ability to its fullest. However, maybe they have started to use him too much on the ground. In the last six games, Fields has carried the ball 80 times, for an average of over 13 per game. He had 18 carries on Sunday. For reference, Lamar Jackson hasn’t had a single game this season with over 12 carries.
Late in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, Fields took some hits, and he is now hurt. He was dealing with a hamstring injury throughout the game, but he ultimately left the game holding his shoulder. It was later revealed as a dislocated left shoulder. Fields carried the ball 18 times in a game that the Bears would lose, and wound up injured in the process. The Bears are 3-8 and their young quarterback isn’t healthy. Why should they continue to run him out there with the team that is currently constructed? The short answer is: They shouldn’t.
Justin Fields says his left shoulder is hurting. On the extra medical attention after the game, he says he got an x-ray, and they’re still going through it. No specifics on injury, but “the pain right now is pretty bad.” @cbschicago pic.twitter.com/cgJ04C8RUA

Only one wide receiver on the team has over 190 receiving yards. The offensive line is full of young, unproven players just trying to pave their way in the NFL like Braxton Jones and Tevin Jenkins, or past their prime players like Riley Reiff. These conditions are unacceptable in order to develop a young quarterback.
Chicago has the most projected cap space for next offseason with around $125 million. They are also likely to end up with a top five selection in the NFL Draft. I don’t think Justin Fields should step on the field again unless he is either 100% healthy with zero concerns, or the team around him has significantly improved through free agency and the draft.
The Chicago Bears may have found their next star quarterback. Justin Fields is making significant improvements to his game throughout his sophomore season in the NFL. Luke Getsy has started to incorporate more designed runs to utilize Fields’ skill sets more appropriately. Unfortunately for the Bears, they are 3-8 and Justin Fields is now hurt. They need to be extremely careful with him before the future of the Bears franchise is broken.
