The San Jose Sharks head to Canada for a matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7pm EST from Scotiabank Arena.
The Maple Leafs enter this contest with a record of 14-5-5 and currently sit in second place in the Atlantic Division. They have won four straight games and seven of their last ten overall. They’ll look to continue their hot play against a Sharks team that comes in with a record of 8-13-4. San Jose sits towards the bottom of the Pacific Division and has some ground to try and make up.
Goaltender Ilya Samsonov will start tonight for the Maple Leafs, seeing his first game action since November 5th when he injured his knee. He was 6-2 before going down with his injury so it’ll be a nice boost to the already loaded Toronto roster.
The Sharks defense will be tested today going against players such as Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares. Toronto doesn’t lack scoring ability and creates problems for every defense they face. Nylander has been very solid this season, putting in 13 goals and 12 assists on the year so far.
San Jose will need to rely on their strength from the season which is their penalty kill. It has been one of the bright spots for this team and against a lethal offensive attack, it may be key in deciding the outcome of the game. Limit their chances on the power play and the Sharks could do well.
Prediction: Toronto Maple Leafs 3, San Jose Sharks 1
I think Toronto wins this game. They are easily the better team and on home-ice, give me the Leafs to win here.
