The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons will face each other for a third matchup tonight. The previous two games have been at Madison Square Garden, this time it will be at Little Caesars Arena with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. EST.

The Knicks travel to Detroit with a 9-11 record after losing four of their last five games. The Knicks will be looking to gain their momentum back against a Pistons team who they have already beat twice this season. They did so by 24 and nine points respectively and the offense has been able to score, leading to the 12th most points per game with 114.6.

Without Cade Cunningham, the inefficiencies of this Detroit Pistons team have truly shown. The Pistons have lost three of their last five games, dropping them to 5-17 on the season. The Pistons’ offense has been bad, scoring 109.1 points per game, which is the fifth-worst in the NBA. The defense hasn’t been much better, allowing 116.7 points per game.

How New York Can Win: The Knicks come into this game healthy, with the only player questionable being Immanuel Quickley. They have relied on their offense to win them games and should be relying on that again against this Detroit defense. RJ Barrett gave the Pistons problems last time out, scoring 30 points, and is averaging 18.6 points on the season. Barrett is just one player of the big three the Knicks have with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle who are both averaging 21.8 and 20.6 points respectively. This offensive trio has helped New York get out to big leads in the first half. They need to show they can sustain those leads in the second half by not getting sloppy on defense and allowing teams to stay in the game. While the Pistons are missing key players, they are at home and will give everything they have to stay in this game.

How Detroit Can Win: The Pistons are decimated with injuries. In addition to Cunningham being out, Jaden Ivey, Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley, and Bojan Bogdanović are all questionable. The Pistons will need players to step up, particularly their long-range shooters. Against the Knicks, opponents are hitting a league high 38.7% from long-range, which has led to opponents being able to score in bunches. Bogdanović is the team leader in three-points made, so if he can’t play it will have to be Alec Burks who is second on the team averaging two three-points made per game.

Prediction: New York Knicks 128, Detroit Pistons 118

With the Pistons possibly being without many of their star players, and the recent success the Knicks have had against Detroit, it is hard to see an outcome where New York isn’t victorious.
