Dallas Stars vs Tampa Bay Lightning Game Preview 11/15/2022

The Rundown:

The Stars start their road trip through Florida tonight as they head down to Amalie Arena. They look to continue their success as they beat the Flyers in Philadelphia 5-2 to start their three game road trip away from home. The Lightning look to make life difficult for the Stars on their home ice tonight. With Dallas on the come up, and Tampa slightly regressing, it should make for one heck of a battle tonight.

The Matchup

Last season, the matchups between both squads led to a battle between their goalies. With only five goals scored by both teams through two matchups, it’s easy to see how the goaltenders are the key to this matchup. Jake Oettinger has cemented himself as one of the best at his position at such a young age this season. Oettinger currently leads the league in Save Percentage (.938) and Goals Against Average (1.80). Meanwhile, his counterpart tonight Andrei Vasilevskiy, has not been having the season he would like. The former Vezina trophy winner has a putrid 3.10 Goals Against Average and a .898 Save Percentage on the year. He’s going to have to step up big for the Lightning to have a chance tonight.

Players To Watch

For the Stars, Joe Pavelski is the player to watch. Pavelski has been on fire with his production and has been a huge part of why Dallas has been so good. Pavelski at age 38 is doing what many can only dream of at his age. According to the NHL Public Relations page on Instagram, he is the first player since Martin St. Louis in 2013-14 to start a season at age 38 to have five plus multi-point games through the first 15 games of a season. Along with his presence as a scorer with Jason Robertson, Pavelski is letting the good times roll.

For the Lightning, Andrei Vasilevskiy is the player to watch. As mentioned earlier, he isn’t having the greatest start to a season for what may be the first time in his career. But Vasi is undoubtedly one of, if not the best goaltender in the NHL. His ability to track the puck along with his flexibility make him unstoppable and unsolvable some nights. He was key to Tampa Bay’s two cups in the past three years and he will again be key in tonight’s matchup against Dallas.
