Colorado Avalanche vs Winnipeg Jets Game Preview 11/29/2022

The Rundown:

The Jets begin a four game home stand tonight as the reigning Stanley Cup Champions head into town. The Colorado Avalanche heading into Winnipeg have been on a roll in November. But they face a worthy opponent, as both the Jets and the Avs have been on a tear lately. The Avalanche are 8-2 in their last 10 games, while the Jets are on a two game win streak with a 7-3 record in their last 10 games. An exciting Central Division matchup goes down tonight in Winnipeg. So let’s get ready for a good one!

The Matchup

The last time these two teams met up was on October 19th at Ball Arena in Denver. The Jets were victorious in Overtime, with Neal Pionk scoring the winner to be the hero and notched two goals that night. The Avalanche, despite their recent success, are coming in hurt. The Avalanche are missing forwards Gabriel Landeskog, Darren Helm, Valeri Nichushkin, and Evan Rodrigues.

The Avalanche even with their slow start and current injuries remain one of the most lethal teams in the NHL. The Jets are going to rely on their defensive structure and goaltending to win against the Avalanche and their elite offense tonight.

Players To Watch

For the Avalanche, Arturri Lehkonen is the player to watch. In the past nine games, Lehkonen has 11 points (four goals and seven assists). His promotion to the top line with MacKinnon and Rantanen has done wonders for the team. Not only for his production but for the success of the Avalanche. One of the more underrated forwards on the Avs roster, Lehkonen knows how to get the job done on both ends of the ice. An elite two-way forward, even when facing the best competition in the league he continues to perform at a high level.

For the Jets, Josh Morrissey is the player to watch. In the Week ending November 27, 2022, Morrissey was named the NHL’s Second Star of the week. In that span, he has seven points, with a huge three assist night against Chicago. Josh Morrissey currently leads the Jets in scoring with four goals and 19 assists, good for 23 points on the season. His play has been a major key to the Jets’ recent success. His production and ability to remain solid in his own end have kept the Jets on their upward trajectory.
