The slumping Hurricanes head to Pittsburgh to take on the surging Penguins. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. EST.

The Hurricanes snapped a five-game losing streak last time out with a 3-2 win over the Flames. Even with the losing streak, Carolina is 11-6-5 and in third place in the Metropolitan Division. Carolina’s early goal-scoring leader is Andre Svechnikov with 13. Svechnikov is also one of three Hurricane skaters with more than 20 points this season. Martin Necas leads the team in points with 24, while Sebastian Aho has 23 points and Svechnikov has 22. Carolina has rotated through three goaltenders due to a long-lasting injury to Frederik Andersen. Both Antti Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov have been solid this season. The pair has registered a goals against average of 2.47 or better and a save percentage of .901 or higher in 14 combined games.

The Penguins have been a team of streaks. Pittsburgh has had multiple winning streaks of four or more and a losing streak of seven so far this season. The Penguins come into tonight’s game with an 11-8-3 record which is good enough for fourth place in the Metro, two points behind Carolina. Pittsburgh’s Captain Sidney Crosby has been the team’s best player this season with 11 goals and 29 points this season. Evgeni Malkin has also been great offensively this season as he has 20 points in 22 games. Tristan Jarry has been solid in net this season with a 2.90 GAA and a .914 SV% in 13 games.

Pittsburgh took two of three games from Carolina last season, but the Canes salvaged three of six possible points. The projected starting goaltenders for this game are Raanta for the Hurricanes and Jarry for Pittsburgh.
