Calgary Flames vs New Jersey Devils Game Preview 11/8/2022

The Rundown:

A rematch between two recent matchups as the Flames take on the Devils at Prudential Center in Newark tonight. The Devils, who swept their Western Canadian trip, held out to beat the Flames 4-3 in Overtime last week. The Flames are looking to take their revenge and right the ship. The Flames last night lost in similar fashion to the Islanders 4-3 in overtime at UBS Arena. A tired team looking to fight back against a red hot offensive juggernaut should make for a great showing.

The Matchup

As stated prior, so far on the season the Devils have the upper hand in the matchup. Both teams have been able to pour on a ton of shots with the Flames compiling 76 shots on goal and the Devils shooting 78 shots on goal in their last two matchups. The difference for both teams belongs between the pipes. The Devils’ netminder Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to miss significant time with an injury. Meanwhile, Jacob Markstrom has been playing poorly as of late, posting a meager .897 Save Percentage and a 2.95 Goals Against Average.

Players To Watch

For the Flames, Mikael Backlund is the player to watch. The star power for the Flames has slowly started to wake up and begin their scoring. But as of late, Backlund has been finding his scoring touch to keep the Flames in their games. Backlund potted two goals last night against the Islanders and looks to keep that up going into tonight.

For the Devils, Miles Wood is the player to watch. Mike’s Wood has been red hot and has been a key part to their most recent roast trip. Wood scored in every game and tallied six points in that span. The speedy 4th line winger plays with a ton of tenacity and brings his A game every night. His physicality mixed with his speed make him a sneaky threat against opponents.
