Buffalo Sabres vs Ottawa Senators Game Preview 11/16/2022

By

The Rundown:

In the Canadian capital of Ottawa, the Buffalo Sabres come in to try and make the most of their back-to-back. The Senators, who are defending their home ice, are trying to turn things around and move back up into a potential playoff spot in the Atlantic. Luckily enough for them, they have a chance to get big points against a division rival in the Sabres.

The Matchup

The Sabres bested the Senators 4-1 back on October 13th at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.

Victor Olofsson torched the Senators that night, banging in two goals. The Sabres have the advantage in the standings over the Senators with their record of 7-9. Versus the Senators record of 5-9-1. Both teams have been struggling between the pipes, so expect a l;ot of goal scoring in tonight’s matchup.

Players To Watch

For the Sabres, Tage Thompson is the player to watch. Tage Thompson this season has been putting the league on notice. Last year he gave flashes of his potential, but now has asserted himself as an important scoring forward for the Sabres. At age 25, this season Thompson has an astounding 21 points in 16 games for the Sabres. Him taking that leap has added a great young piece to Buffalo’s growing young core.

For the Senators, Claude Giroux is the player to watch. A great veteran addition this off-season, Giroux has finally started to settle in this season. Finally getting some goals in the past couple of games, Giroux’s game when he’s on makes him a major asset for the Senators forward core. A team that struggled massively last season to score, his offensive abilities allow the Senators to be more potent offensively. At age 34, Giroux is reminding many that he is still an important player for whatever team that he plays for. For the Senators, as long as they continue to make strides, he will be huge for their run for a potential playoff run.
