Week Seven Fantasy Football Takeaways

Week Seven is now over and boy is there a lot to cover. We witnessed an absolute takeover by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Fantasy managers who own Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, or Tyler Boyd in particular were especially ecstatic. With the good, there is also bad, which we have to cover as well.

1. Injuries Man…

Who else suffered from all those injuries in Week Seven? I know I did. From Breece Hall to DK Metcalf, it might be tough to figure out how to replace these guys. Try buying players who recently performed below their mean.

For these guys in particular, there are also players who benefit from these injuries. For Breece Hall, it is James Robinson, not Michael Carter, who becomes the clear running back one for the New York Jets and can potentially be a low running back one in fantasy football the rest of the season. Zach Wilson and the Jets can move the ball well enough to give Robinson the same upside he had as a lead back for the Jacksonville Jaguars. For DK Metcalf, Marquise Goodwin has shown off in his absence with four catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Hopefully, the injuries slow down as the season goes on.

2. Right, Wrong, and Right Again

The last time I wrote this type of article was post Week Four, and it was right after I was finally fed up with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Travis Etienne for not getting much work on the ground in positive game scripts. But, he also wasn’t involved in the passing game in negative game scripts. In the preseason, I had Travis Etienne as my running back nine overall. After the first four weeks, I was truly down on him. However, ever since I called myself out saying I was wrong on Etienne, he’s been an absolute beast. He is suddenly game script proof and can be relied on the ground as well as in the air. It’s truly been an amazing progression to see from him, the last three weeks in particular, with his 7.9 yards per carry average and his average of four targets a game.

James Robinson has now been traded to the Jets, so Travis Etienne is now a running back one the rest of the season. If you have him, cheers to you! You now have a league winning player.

3. Giselegate

I have no idea what is going on with Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, but Brady has not looked like himself this season and especially this past Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored just three points in a 21-3 loss. In six of his seven starts this season, Brady has only passed for one or fewer touchdowns. This team barely looks like they can hold on to their division let alone Super Bowl aspirations and fantasy football managers are tired of Brady’s performances.

I hope Brady and the Buccaneers figure out what’s going on, whether it’s the awful coaching staff, Brady himself, or a mix of both. I, personally, think it’s definitely a mix of both, and I don’t think things will get figured out by season’s end. Brady should have stayed retired because he’s unable to continue to do the things he did just one year ago.
