As the new NBA season starts next week, it’s time to dive into the top players in the game. Everyone has a different opinion, but one thing is for certain; these guys dominate the game of basketball. Here are my top-15 players heading into the 2022-2023 NBA season.

  1. Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers

Lillard is back from injury and ready to show those around the NBA that may doubt him wrong. When healthy, he is an absolute problem on the court for opposing defenses. His ability to stretch the floor and drive to the basket is impressive and makes him a legit threat at all times past half-court. He is a volume scorer at heart and surely will remind those who doubt him, exactly who he is this season.

  1. Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers

Let’s not get this twisted, Davis is still a top-15 player. The key for him is to stay healthy and on the court. His strong ability to play on both sides of the ball is something that not many other players in the league have. He can score down low, shoot the jumper, and drive when needed. His jump shot has been an issue over the last two seasons, but he seems to have tweaked his shooting form, just a bit. He will need to stay healthy but if he does, he is a problem.

  1. Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

Young is a lethal scorer and can shoot from all over the court. However, he is still lacking on the defensive side of the ball. If he can improve there, he will jump up this list. However, due to his size, it’s unlikely that this will happen. The leader of the Hawks has a big year looming after the trade went out to improve the roster around their star point guard. It’ll be an interesting season for Young and to see if he can climb up this list.

  1. Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies

Morant took the league by storm last season and for good reason. The explosive guard plays like it will be his last game, every time out. The biggest weakness in his game is three-point shooting and defense. These are things that he has talked about wanting to improve and for his sake, hopefully he does. He may be the most entertaining player in the game today and is in line for a massive season.

  1. Paul George, Los Angeles Clippers

Another player where health really determines their status around the game, George is still one of the best in the league. He can play both ends of the court and when he’s hot, he can’t miss from the field. He provides a lengthy wing player with strong hands and shooting ability. George will remind people this season just how good he is. Especially with a loaded team around him, the sky is the limit for him.

  1. Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat

Maybe Butler doesn’t get the glamour of some other stars, but he certainly belongs here. He is a beast and helped carry the Heat to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. He does the little things that sometimes go unnoticed but never underappreciated. He can score with the best of them and play defense as well. He is a top-10 player in the NBA as he continues to get better with age.

  1. Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics

Fresh off a poor performance in the NBA Finals, Tatum will need to have another strong season. He is more than capable of it and will likely be even better than last season. One of the new age stars, Tatum is so much fun to watch out on the basketball court. Playing alongside a player like Jaylen Brown gives him a nice co-star but Tatum is the real show out in Boston. Expect great things from him this upcoming season.

  1. Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers

The Klaw is back. There is nothing else to say other than hopefully he can stay healthy because he is easily a top-five player when he is. This dude can do it all and is one of the main reasons that people believe the Clippers should be title favorites entering the season. He falls on the list due to not playing last season, but he is well worth a higher spot.

  1. Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers

Embiid has grown his game in recent years and is somewhat unstoppable out on the court. Unlikely for him, there are just so many other great players around the NBA. He should have another great season and one that 76ers fans are really looking forward too.

  1. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Look many will see Doncic here and disagree but until he gets better on the defensive side of the ball, I can’t put him any higher. Yes, he took the Mavericks to the Conference Finals, but I want to see more growth from him this season. He can score the ball almost at will and is a lethal player for defenses. I anticipate that he will be higher than number six in next seasons list after another good season from him.

  1. Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets

The last few memories of Durant have been a poor performance in the playoffs and a trade request over the offseason. However, he is still a top-five player in the NBA. Durant has the size and shooting ability to do pretty much anything he wants on the court. Durant could be higher on the list but some shooting struggles towards the end of last season drop him a little.

  1. LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers

Some people may be mad that James is still so high on a list but if you are one of them, please stay mad. James averaged over 30 points a game last season in YEAR 19. This isn’t being talked about enough simply because he is held to such a high standard. He is 37 years old and is still competing at a high level against these younger players on the list. Entering year 20 of his career, James is still a top player in the game and will be for another season or two.

  1. Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors

-Curry was simply spectacular during the Warriors run to a title last season. The greatest shooter of all-time finds himself towards the top of this list and for good reason. He is the definition of a problem out on the basketball court. Curry and his legacy will continue to grow if the team keeps winning. He is a special player and one that we likely won’t see again for a long time.

  1. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

The two-time MVP finds himself as the second player on this list. His ability to both score and pass the ball as a big man is something that we haven’t seen in a long time. Jokic puts fear into the hearts of the competition and gives the city of Denver a true superstar player. He should continue to dominate the NBA and just might get another MVP trophy out of it.

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

With all the talk surrounding the best player in the league today, nobody shines brighter than Antetokounmpo. He is the best player in the league and will continue to be for a while. His unique athletic ability gives him an edge over most in the league. Antetokounmpo is one of the favorites for the MVP trophy this season and could also help lead his team to another title.
