The New York Giants saw their four game winning streak snapped when they fell to the Seahawks on Sunday, 27-13. It was the first time this season the Giants did not play a game that ended in a one score finish. With many miscues, turnovers, missed opportunities and poor first half showing, here are the three takeaways from the Giants loss at Seattle.
The Giants must trade for a receiver at the deadline
The Giants receiving core is depleted and today’s showing proved it. Many drops, not many shots down the field showed that this offense is not very explosive. The Giants must address these issues. We do not know when Kenny Golladay will return so this has to be a top priority for New York. The Giants must get a receiver at the trading deadline if they want any hope of winning their remaining games in the second half of the season.
Can’t win if you fall behind early
Though the Giants have found success winning games they were behind for the most part of the season, I don’t see that success translating the rest of the way and that reality finally came into fruition today. The Giants were held to a dismal 46 total yards in the first half and they never led. They need to start out games fast and try to avoid playing catch up. That success won’t last with teams like the Cowboys and Eagles coming up in the second half of their season.
Turnovers were costly
Wide receiver and punt returner Richie James coughed up two fumbles today resulting in a total of 10 points for Seattle, which ended up being the deciding factor of this ballgame. Those kinds of miscues won’t get you into contention for a postseason berth and is something that Giants must address. You can’t lose the turnover battle because most of the time, you will lose. It will be interesting to see if this continues to hurt them down the road.
