The Rundown:

A highly contested Central Division matchup in the city of Smashville, we got the Stars facing the Predators. An upgraded Predators team, who are already 2-0 after the Global Series, look to win on home ice at Bridgestone Arena. Meanwhile, the Stars are looking to repeat the success of last season for another playoff push. Two older squads in a matchup that certainly will be intense.

The Matchup

Last season the Stars only finished one point ahead of the Predators in the standings. Both teams had pretty similar records last year. The Preds had a 45-30-7 record while the Stars had a 46-30-6 record. In head-to-head matchups, Nashville came out on top. Nashville went 3-1 against Dallas but the matchups were close. The Predators scored 11 goals against Dallas, with the Stars having scored eight goals against them. Both teams always have highly contested matchups and close games, given the quality of goaltending between Jake Oettinger and Juuse Saros.

Players To Watch

For the Predators, Filip Forsberg is the player to watch. Forsberg caught his bag last year as he is now a Nashville Predator for the foreseeable future. He had a career year last year scoring 84 points while scoring a career high 42 goals. Especially with all the other roster upgrades and the high momentum the team already has, I expect Forsberg to continue to be red hot. Assuming he, Duchene, and Josi keep up the pace from last year, the PRedators could be contending for a top-three spot in the Central Division.

For the Stars, Jake Oettinger is the player to watch. Oettinger took over full time as the starter fir the Stars last season and performed phenomenally. At 23 years old, having a record of 30-15-1 through 46 starts and maintaining a .914 save percentage is impressive. Adding some major stability between the pipes after some major goalie shuffling in Dallas the past couple years. He will have to play some great goaltending tonight against another great young goalie, Juuse Saros, to keep the Stars in the contest tonight.

My Prediction

Just like the goaltending matchup we all saw in New York on Tuesday, I expect another high quality game from the goaltenders. The Predators have the edge being on home ice in one of the most electric arenas in the entire NHL. But the Dallas Stars are no slouches, as they’re going to come in ready to play. I expect the Predators to win by a score of 3-2. I can also imagine the Stars could take advantage of a team that just landed back in the US after the Global Series in Czechia.
