The Avalanche head to Calgary to take on the new-look Flames tonight with puck drop scheduled for 9:38 EST.

Colorado took care of business on banner night by destroying the Blackhawks 5-2. The Avalanche also outshot Chicago 35-17. Mikko Rantanen tallied four assists in the game, while Artturi Lehkonen tallied two goals and an assist. Valeri Nichuskin also potted two goals in the win.

Calgary went from Stanley Cup contenders, to rebuilding, then back to contenders in a three day span this summer. The Flames lost Johnny Gaudreau and a few other key pieces to free agency last July. Calgary then traded Matthew Tkachuk to Florida for Johnathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. The Flames finished its offseason by signing Nazem Kadri and a few other free agents to fill out a scary-looking roster.

Last season, the Avalanche won two of three matchups with Calgary and took five of six points in those matchups. All three 2022-23 matchups will be near must-watch television as it could be a potential playoff matchup with lots of scoring. The Avalanche will likely turn to its “1B” goaltender Pavel Francouz in net as the Flames turn to its star net minder Jacob Markstrom.
