The Rundown:

The champion Colorado Avalanche are on home ice in Denver to kick off the start of a new regular season as they face off against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Avalanche will raise their Cup Championship banner as they host the Blackhawks tonight, which should lead to a fun matchup. A primetime matchup, featuring Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar going against Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, is always a game to bring out the popcorn and dig in.

The Matchup

It is no secret about the state that both teams are currently in. One is one of the best teams in hockey and a champion. The other is a team at the beginning of a major rebuild. Last season, the Avalanche dominated the Blackhawks. Colorado went 4-0 against Chicago, and outscored them 16-9 in those appearances. Neither team made major upgrades throughout the offseason, but using the results of last season as guidance, I have no doubt that the same will go for this season. The Avalanche are probably going to destroy the Blackhawks, but with two elite players like Kane and Toews, it can be hard to count them out sometimes.

Players To Watch

For the Avalanche, Gabriel Landeskog is the player to watch. In four appearances against Chicago last season, Landeskog scored seven points (three goals and four assists). He scored in every game against them and is known for his physical yet slick prominence on the ice. Although it’s easy to pick someone like MacKinnon or Makar, who are always players to watch, Landeskog is a lock for tonight. Coming off a 30 goal season, the second-highest scoring of his career, the captain will be a problem for the Blackhawks.

For the Blackhawks, Patrick Kane is the player to watch. His puck handling skills and prowess with the puck make him extremely fun to watch. Even at age 33, he continues to dazzle fans everywhere with his skill. Even in a down season for Chicago, Kane had one of his highest scoring seasons since the 2018-19 season. 92 points through 78 games is impressive, making it his third-highest scoring season of his career, especially with his 66 assists to tie his career high.

My Prediction

The Avalanche are going to make Ball Arena explode with their intensity. The Avalanche will beat the Blackhawks by a score of 6-2.
