The New Orleans Saints slipped to 1-2 with a miserable defeat to the Carolina Panthers. The Saints are now 0-2 in the division and looked abject as they meekly surrendered in Charlotte. Here are three takeaways.
Jameis Winston Needs to be Benched
Jameis Winston is hurt. And he can not play in this shape. Winston threw two more interceptions, including a pick-six in this game, and lacked fizz when throwing the ball. Winston looks nervous and erratic. The Saints have pieces on offense, and they need Andy Dalton to come in and hold the fort. The Saints season is on life support, and Winston needs to be benched.
Alvin Kamara Needs Time
Alvin Kamara returned to the field but looked short of dynamism. Kamara had 15 carries for 61 yards and just two receptions for 12 yards. Kamara did not look ready, and the Panthers kept him in check. Kamara also coughed up the ball in this game. The superstar running back needs time before he finds top gear.
The Saints Are In Trouble
If the New Orleans Saints continue like this, the season will quickly disintegrate. The Saints’ defense is tough, well drilled, and can keep offenses under control. But the Saints have no offense. They have scored 23 points in the last two games; the Panthers got 22 in this game alone. If this offense continues to toil, the Saints will fall apart.
