Last year, many fantasy football players were disappointed when D.J. Chark finished his season after only four games due to a broken ankle. He was placed on injured reserve and missed the rest of the season. This year, Chark is healthy and fantasy owners are wondering if it is worth taking a flier on him in redraft leagues.

There are a few reasons why I am targeting D.J. Chark in fantasy football this year. First, this is a contract year for Chark and he will be looking to prove himself after last year’s injury. Chark signed a one-year $10,000,000 deal with the Detroit Lions in the offseason, so he is motivated to put up big numbers to get a bigger contract next year.

The Lions have an all-around great offense with their weakest position being quarterback, but Jared Goff being the quarterback does not scare me away from Chark. The offense will be clicking and Chark will be a big part of that. Detroit has one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, which will give Goff time to throw and open up passing lanes for Chark. The Lions also have D’Andre Swift in the backfield who is one of the better pass-catching running backs when healthy, which will take some pressure off of Chark. Chark will also be sharing the field with T.J. Hockenson, last year’s breakout receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and first-round rookie Jameson Williams.

Chark will be a player that has WR2 upside with a very late ADP. I believe many analysts are underestimating him because of his injury last year and the fact that he is on the Lions. I think Chark is in for his best year yet and will be a key part of many fantasy football teams looking to have quality depth.

I am confident that Chark will finish the season with over 800 yards and at least three touchdowns. He has the potential for much more, but those are my conservative projections. I would be surprised if he did not reach those numbers and would be ecstatic if he exceeded them. Chark is a player that I am targeting in all of my leagues and think he could be a player that makes fantasy football contenders.
