TWSN MLB Series of The Week: Atlanta Braves vs Philadelphia Phillies 6/28-6/30 2022

Every week, we will be doing a TWSN MLB Series of the Week! Next up is the Atlanta Braves traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies for a three-game set from Citizens Bank Park.

Both teams come in trailing the New York Mets in the race for the division crown. The Braves sit in second place while the Phillies are in third. This series could be a small way for one of these teams to either create some distance or try and close the gap. These divisional games are so important to teams like this because it helps them really understand where they are as a squad. The Braves come in having lost their last series to the Dodgers while the Phillies won their series against the Padres.

Atlanta Braves Record: 42-32

Philadelphia Phillies Record: 39-35

Tuesday’s Starters:

Charlie Morton 4-3, 4.84 ERA vs Zack Wheeler 6-4, 2.77 ERA

Wednesday’s Starters:

Kyle Wright 8-4, 3.18 ERA vs Ranger Suarez 6-4, 4.23 ERA

Thursday’s Starters:

Ian Anderson 6-4, 4.60 ERA vs Aaron Nola 4-5, 2.98 ERA

What to Watch For:

Can Dansby Swanson continue his success from the last few games? He has eight hits and five runs batted in over his last four games and the Braves will need him to stay hot at the plate. He will be someone to keep an eye on as this series gets started. For Philadelphia, it’ll be interesting to see who steps up in the absence of star outfielder Bryce Harper, who was injured in the previous series against the Padres. The Phillies have a loaded team so they have guys who can take that step but they have to go out and prove they can take on the additional responsibility.

Who Wins the Series:

I like the Phillies here to take two of three from the defending champion Braves. They have been playing well of late and even without Harper, should be able to do some damage against the Atlanta pitching staff. Give me the home team to earn a series win.
