The rumors are all swirling about where Kyrie Irving will be suiting up next season. The star point guard has all the talent in the world so the questions surrounding him are simply off the court. His dedication to the game of basketball has come up multiple times of late. However, when Irving is available to play, he is still a force to be reckon with. Irving is under contract with Brooklyn for next season but his time with the Nets could be coming to an end.

The issue for Irving is that he wants a long-term deal while the Nets seem to have no interest in giving him one. To add to that fact, there are a majority of teams that have no interest in giving Irving a long-term deal. However, there is one team that could be desperate enough to do so. Enter in the Los Angeles Lakers. Clearly, the Russell Westbrook trade last offseason was a complete flop and the idea of bringing him back for another season seems like a mistake.

The Lakers still have LeBron James on the roster for at least another season. With him being there, it brings a certain level of expectations for the team. The team isn’t likely to win at the level James is used too with Westbrook on the roster. This is a Los Angeles Lakers franchise that needs to right the wrongs from the last season and head towards a better future.

If they were to bring Irving in and dispose themselves of the Westbrook contract, it could give them life back. The combination of Irving, James, and Anthony Davis would instantly make the Lakers one of the favorites to win the title. James and Irving have a history from their days in Cleveland together and it was a pretty successful stint together. They won a championship together and despite all the drama that has come down over the years, Irving has talked about how he wishes things ended differently and how he would love to play with James again. Irving and Davis are also good friends and Irving has spoken about his desire to play with Davis as well.

The cards all seem to be on the table for Irving to join forces with the Lakers. In part because, the Lakers may be the only team around the association willing to give Irving a chance. Irving could help head the post-LeBron era for this team with Davis while also helping in the short-term. The issue with Irving is whether or not, the team could rely on him day in and day out. Irving has missed time for multiple questionable reasons but maybe a reunion with James is exactly what is needed for the star point guard.

He saw the biggest level of success while playing with James and since the two split up, James has won a title and Irving has yet to reach the conference finals. Maybe this could be a situation where Irving gets to restart his image and the Lakers get the guard paring with James and Davis that they had hoped for with Westbrook. All in all, Irving will likely stay with the Nets for the upcoming season but don’t discount Los Angeles to steal him away. Where there is smoke, there is normally fire and right now, there is a ton of smoke pointing to this scenario.
