Muhammad Ali is known as the greatest boxer of all time with his 56-5 record and 37 wins coming by knockouts. Ali was always known in the ring for his great footwork that he followed up with incredible balance, speed, and power to dominate his opponents. In 1981 Ali retired but the legacy carried on when his daughter Laila Ali fought in 24 fights between 1999 and 2007. After 2007 it seemed as if that would be the last time an Ali stepped in the ring professionally, that was until August 14, 2021.

The match was on the Joshua Franco vs Andrew Maloney Three fight card, and it was the debut for Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of Muhammad Ali. Ali Walsh went on to put together a spectacular debut winning by a technical knockout in round one of his fight against Jordan Weeks. Leading up to his professional debut, Ali Walsh estimated he had 30 amateur bouts and trained with Abel Sanchez.

Before his debut, he signed with Top Rank Boxing and worked with Tyson Fury’s trainer, Javon “Sugar Hill” Steward. Ali Walsh would have his second fight two months later on October 23, 2021, as an undercard to Shakur Stevenson vs Jamel Herring. That fight would be against James Westley II in which Ali Walsh would get another technical knockout victory in round three. He wasted no time again getting back in the ring as his next bout was on December 11, 2021, against Reyes Sanchez as an undercard for Vasyl Lomachenko vs Richard Commey. The result ended with a majority decision in favor of Ali Walsh as he secured his third victory.

So far in 2022, Ali Walsh has had two fights. His first was on January 29, when he faced Jeremiah Yeager on the undercard to Robson Conceicao vs Xavier Martinez. Prior to the fight, Ali Walsh switched trainers and is now trained by Richard Slone. Ali Walsh would get the fourth victory of his career with another technical knockout in the second round. His latest fight was featured on the Shakur Stevenson vs Oscar Valdez card that took place on April 30. He faced off against Alejandro Ibarra and won with a knockout in round one as he improved his record to 5-0.

When analyzing Ali Walsh’s fighting style there are plenty of positives to take away. The first being that he is light on his feet and has swift movements. With his ability to stay light on his toes his defense has improved in each fight from his debut. He has been a knockout artist and that is because he is able to convert his speed to power extremely well.

At just 21 years old Nico Ali Walsh has already shown he is a rising boxing star, with the determination and training he puts in he will continue to go far as he continues to polish his technique. His journey is just beginning and he should be a must-watch going forward as he continues to create his own legacy.
