Avoid Aaron Rodgers This 2022 Fantasy Football Season

Fantasy football is only a few months away and I have started to assemble my fantasy draft board. While reviewing my board, I have found a few players that are being taken much higher than their value dictates. This happens every year and it is our job as fantasy football players to recognize these overvalued players so that we can avoid them on draft day.

One player that I am avoiding in all of my fantasy drafts this year is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is currently being drafted as the QB9 and is being picked around the sixth round in 12-man redraft leagues. This is way too high for me to draft Rodgers. There are a number of other quarterbacks that are being drafted far later that I believe will outproduce the back-to-back MVP in fantasy football this year.

The main reason why I am avoiding Rodgers is because of his lack of weapons this year. The Packers traded away their leading receiver in Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason. Last season, Adams led the Packers in receiving yards with 1,553. The next leading receiver was Allen Lazard with 513 yards. Rodgers will be missing one of the best receivers in the league and this will, in my opinion, cause a huge hit to his production going into next season.

Rodgers also lost his third-best receiver and deep threat in Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Rodgers losing two of his three leading receivers does not give me a confident outlook going into next season.

The Packers attempted to replace Adams with Sammy Watkins who was facing injury trouble last season. Watkins has also not recorded more than 600 receiving yards since 2015. They also drafted Christian Watson with the 34th pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but Watson being a rookie still leaves much unknown going into next season.

Rodgers will have to rely on a lot of new and unproven faces in the passing game this season. That lack of stability is concerning for me going into next year. The lack of quality receiving options is the primary reason I will be avoiding Rodgers in all of my fantasy drafts this year. He is simply too high of a risk for me given all of the question marks surrounding him and his offense going into next season.
