We are almost two months into the new MLB season, and it has been filled with some exciting moments already. Every season, we see teams exceed expectations and teams that fail to live up to those expectations. In a new mini-series, TWSN lead baseball analysts Matt Levine and Logan Fulmer rank the top three teams that are exceeding expectations and the top three teams who have failed to live up to their preseason hype. We first start off with the three teams that have exceeded expectations:

  1. Arizona Diamondbacks

-One of the more surprising teams around the sport of baseball but the Diamondbacks have played much better than expected so far this season. They have done this backed by strong starting pitching and timely hitting. They still find themselves towards the bottom of the NL West but that’s because the division they play in is strong. If they were in another division, they would be towards the top of the standings. It remains to be seen if Arizona can keep this pace up but it has been impressive to watch them grow so far. This is a club that certainly can play spoiler towards the end of the season and possibly even compete for a wild card spot.

  1. Los Angeles Angels

-The Angels were a team that many believed would take a leap this season and they certainly have. They are currently right in the thick of the division lead with the Astros and are playing good baseball. They have a strong core of players and finally went out to grab some decent starting pitching over the offseason and it has paid off so far. This Angels team could be dangerous if they reach the postseason because of the pure star power that they possess on the roster. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani lead the charge and gives the team a nice one, two punch.

  1. Minnesota Twins

-How about the Twins? They were one of the more aggressive teams during the offseason and signed Carlos Correa in a surprising move. It has paid off well for them and the Twins find themselves currently leading the AL Central, a division that not many thought would be competitive. They have shocked the entire sport of baseball and have been fielding a good team. If they can keep up this hot start, then they can really make things interesting in that division, especially since the Chicago White Sox haven’t looked like world beaters so far.
