Fantasy Implications of DeAndre Hopkins Suspension

The news of DeAndre Hopkins’ six-game PED suspension came as a surprise to many fantasy football owners. Hopkins is still currently a quality receiver in all fantasy football formats, and his absence shakes up many fantasy football rankings.

Hopkins was suspended for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. He will be eligible to return for the week seven game. Hopkins is one of the top receivers in the league, and his production will be missed. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when considering how this suspension will affect your fantasy team.

First, Hopkins will be eligible to return for the last 11 games of the regular season, which could mean that he would be a good player to consider stashing for a playoff push later in the fantasy football season. The first ten of games of a fantasy football season are the most relevant.

Second, while Hopkins is suspended, the Arizona Cardinals will still have a very talented group of receivers to choose from.

I believe that the Cardinals were aware of the possibility of Hopkins being suspended and that is why they traded for Ravens star receiver Hollywood Brown during the first round of the NFL Draft.

So while Hopkins is suspended, I believe that the Cardinals offense will still be very productive. Finally, if you want to target DeAndre Hopkins during your fantasy draft, you will be able to get him at a discount relative to his ADP last year. If one wants to go running back heavy in the first few rounds Hopkins may still be available in the mid-tier rounds and will most likely be a wide reciever one after his return to the team.

If you have Hopkins in a Dynasty League and are considering your options, I’d recommend you hold onto him for the time being. Hopkins value is currently at the lowest in his entire NFL career. I’d wait until he returns and puts up some stats because this will cause his value to shoot up.
