Cincinnati Reds Record 3-16

Colorado Rockies Record 10-9

Pitching matchups

-Friday

Hunter Greene 5.27 ERA vs Antonio Senzatela 4.73 ERA

-Saturday

*TBA vs Chad Kuhl 1.10 ERA

-Sunday

Reiver Sanmartin 10.91 ERA  vs Kyle Freeland 6.16 ERA

*The TBA is in place because the Reds have been hit with yet another injury. Rookie Nick Lodolo was placed on the IL with a back strain following his best start as a pro. They have yet to announce who will be starting on saturday, Connor Overton and Graham Ashcraft make the most sense as logical call ups.

What to watch for

Which Hunter Greene do we get?

-In his last start the top prospect known for his overpowering fastball had a different approach. In his first few starts his fastball was sitting in the triple digits, however, last time out his fastest pitch was “only” 97 mph. Greene said he simply did not have the velocity that day and that it happens sometimes. He showed he can get the job done either way which is all that matters, but it is something to watch going forward.

Will the offense keep hitting?

-Even though they are not winning games the offense has looked much better over the last two series. In five of the last six games the Reds have had eight or more hits, which could lead to even more success heading to a hitters paradise in Coors Field.

Keys to a series victory

-The Reds have to figure out how to keep a lead, in the last three series every time the Reds take the lead they give it right back the next half inning. Holding onto a lead for an extended period of time can help everyone on the team and can really help get them over this hump.

The offense needs to keep hitting the ball hard. Like I mentioned, the hits have been there but they have also hit the ball hard for outs quite often this year. In a place like Colorado if you hit the ball hard it is going to travel and hopefully lead to more scoring which the Reds clearly need.

Series Prediction

-If the Reds did not lose Nick Lodolo I would love their chances at winning this series but having a TBA followed by Reiver Sanmartin does not scream success to me. I think the offense will carry them this weekend and make this a very entertaining series. I think this might be the time for the Reds to win their first series of the year behind an offensive explosion.
