Coming off a huge win streak, the Phoenix Suns were finally brought back down to earth in their last contest against the Atlanta Hawks and now will try and start a new winning streak. They take on the Washington Wizards tonight on the road and are looking to keep pace as the number one team in the league. Overall, they have won nine of their last ten games and own a record of 41-10, holding a 195-5 record away from Phoenix. On the other side, Washington comes into this matchup after a big win against the Philadelphia 76ers and are looking to keep the momentum on their side. Washington is just 3-7 in their last ten games, holding a record of 24-27 and are 13-12 at home this season. These two teams met earlier in the season with the Suns coming out on top by a score of 118 to 98. This will be the last regular season meeting between the two squads this season.

How Phoenix can win: Before their last game, Phoenix was on a tear, just toying with the league. After making the NBA Finals last season, it is clear that the Suns want to get back there and have all the makings of a potential championship team. Devin Booker has played lights out this season, earning himself another All-Star appearance. He has averaged 33.3 points over his past six games, including a 43-point outing against Utah on January 26th. If he can get into a rhythm early, it could make for a long night for Washington. Alongside Booker in the backcourt is veteran point guard Chris Paul, or Point God if you go by his nickname. Paul is one of the best leaders in the NBA and has averaged 14.9 points and 10.5 assists this season. He and Booker make life tough for opposing defenses every time out on the floor and will surely do the same in this one.

Phoenix ranks third overall in offense around the league and seventh defensively so making sure to attack a Beal-less Wizards team aggressively could make the difference. If Phoenix doesn’t take them for granted, they should be able to pull out the win.

How Washington can win: With star guard Bradley Beal will out with an injury, the Wizards will need other players to step up if they are to take down the heavy favorited Suns. That could fall on guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who in the last game against the 76ers dropped his first career triple double. Dinwiddie has been in the headlines recently with trade rumors but clearly hasn’t let that distract him from his play. On the season he is averaging 13 points and 5.9 assists a game but will need to take that up another level with Beal out. Additionally, the Wizards have been relying on forward Kyle Kuzma to take some of the offensive load. Kuzma had a great game against the 76ers as well, scoring 24 points and came up with a key block down the stretch of the game to seal the win.

Defensively, the Wizards must key in on Suns guard Devin Booker, who is one of the best scorers in the league. The Wizards rank 18th overall in defense around the league but will need to play hard on every possession against this explosive Suns offense. Containing the pick and roll while also fighting around screens will be major for the Wizards defensively.

The Spread Via FanDuel:

Moneyline: PHX: (-375) | WAS: (+300)

Spread: PHX: -8.5 (-110) | WAS: +8.5 (-110)

Final Prediction: Phoenix Suns 116 Washington Wizards 102

-Even if Bradley Beal had been able to suit up, this would have been a mismatch for the Wizards. The Suns are the best team in the NBA and are chasing the number one seed in the Western Conference. The Wizards have some nice pieces but in this game, I’m taking Phoenix to win lead by Chris Paul and Devin Booker.
