Top Eight Quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft

The 2022 Draft is quickly approaching and over the next few weeks, I will be outlining my top eight players at each position as of right now. First off, Quarterbacks. This class is a highly debated class, there is no clear No. 1 quarterback and everyone’s rankings are highly different.

  1. Sam Howell, UNC- Before the 2021 season started, Howell was viewed as a consensus top five pick. His stock tended to fall off due to mistakes and just not seeing the same level of production that UNC’s offense put up in 2020. A key issue to the UNC offense falling off wasn’t because Howell’s play slipped but the entire new supporting cast he had to work with. It’s not often at any level we see a quarterback lose three of his starting wide receivers and both of his pass-catching running backs in one offseason. Howell displayed great toughness, motivation, and drive being able to lead a productive offense while learning new weapons entirely. In addition, he evolved his play by focusing more on his running abilities. In 2019 and 2020 combined he only rushed for 191 yards and six touchdowns but really adjusted his pocket presence this year and when he couldn’t find the crackdown he took off. In 2021 alone, Howell rushed for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns, and most of his attempts were not designed runs, though UNC had a few in each game to try and open up the offense. Howell will be a productive quarterback in the NFL if he can stay consistent, he will be a middle-of-the-line quarterback that can take you places with the right weapons around him.
