New York Knicks vs Los Angeles Lakers Preview 2/5/2022

The Los Angeles Lakers will play their second straight game at the Arena in Los Angeles against the New York Knicks on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. EST. The Lakers fell to the Clippers in a road loss, 111-110, on Thursday. The Lakers rallied late but fell short to Reggie Jackson and the Clippers. They hold the ninth-seed in the West with a 25-28 record.

The Knicks are in a similar spot as the Lakers because of their struggles throughout the season. The Knicks dropped Wednesday’s game at Madison Square Garden to the Memphis Grizzlies, 120-108. New York is well below .500 with a 24-28 record and they are ranked No. 12 in the conference. They are fighting for a spot for the Play-In round, which could be out of their reach if they cannot turn the season around soon.

How The New York Knicks Can Win:

R.J. Barrett has been one of the few bright spots for the Knicks in the 2021-2022 season. He scored 23 points against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. He saw help from Evan Fournier, who registered 30 points, but Fournier’s play has been inconsistent throughout the season. To beat the Lakers, Julius Randle will have to have a big game against his former team. Not only does Randle have to produce, but he must stay focused. Against the Grizzlies, Randle got into a scuffle with the Grizzlies during a media timeout. Randle’s temperament will be a part of the game for the Knicks.

How The Los Angeles Lakers Can Win:

The Lakers could be without LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony on Saturday against the Knicks. James has been out for the past four games with a knee injury, while Anthony strained his right hamstring against the Clippers. Los Angeles will rely on Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook to carry the load, which is what they had to do against the Clippers. Davis had 30 points and 17 rebounds. Westbrook scored 17 points. The only other player to score in double-digits was Malik Monk, who had 21 points. If Davis and Westbrook can get help from their bench, then they should be able to stave off the Knicks.
