The Milwaukee Bucks will be traveling to Portland tonight to take on the Trail-Blazers. After dealing Norman Powell and Robert Covington to Los Angeles yesterday, clearly, neither will play in this game. In addition, Larry Nance Jr will sit out, as well as new additions Eric Bledsoe and Justise Winslow. Milwaukee will be at full strength playing a short-handed Blazers team, but how can Portland pull off the upset victory?
It’s going to be a tough task for Portland to knock down Milwaukee tonight, but surprisingly, it isn’t impossible. CJ McCollum has to lead the way tonight, prioritizing his mid-range attack and shot-making abilities to lead the way as a scorer. If McCollum can get hot from the mid-range, it’ll open things up for Anfernee Simons to pressure the rim and make plays. The backcourt of Simons and McCollum have to step up tonight and both must have big games.
Jusuf Nurkic also must have a great game as Portland’s defensive anchor. If he can hold things down on the interior and contain Giannis Antetokounmpo from feasting all night, Portland will have a much easier time winning.
As for the Bucks, the game-plan remains simple. Antetokounmpo has to lead the way as always, and if he can have a dominant performance, that alone should be enough for Milwaukee to take the win. They also need to launch from beyond the arc constantly due to Portland’s poor perimeter defense, and if they can get hot from beyond the arc early, it should be an easy win. Expect Milwaukee to do both of these things and take the easy win tonight.
